closet makeover roots and wings furniture (5 of 22)

Today is the day – it’s REVEAL day!! We’ve worked hard on this DIY closet makeover, and it’s finally finished! If you remember, the master bedroom closet started like this…

There were clothes coming in on us from all sides and the space was big enough, but not at all functional.  So we made a Plan (you can see that here), then with the help of Kristin DiBacco from The Serene Space (my friend and pro organizer) we Purged.  Last week I showed you how to build the DIY Laundry Basket Dresser and customize the space with some easy DIY Building projects.

So now it’s time to put it all back together and see what happens!

Here it is – ahhhh! So much better! We can walk in the closet now without something touching us.  You guys, I didn’t even know it was a thing to “like your closet” – I thought that was reserved for people with custom built dream homes, but I’m telling you – I love this space!  It’s both functional and pretty at the same time, which is just what I was going for – that’s a DIY closet makeover success!

We’ve lived with it like this now for about a month, and it has been easy to keep this clean and organized.  This is a perfect example of when everything has a place, it’s much easier to keep it tidy.

The wall on the left I wanted to keep really simple.  We added 2 hooks for robes – they are super easy to stumble in and grab in the morning (even before I’ve had my first cup of coffee).

My old window jewelry organizer and a bit of art made with Chalk Couture add some style to the wall.  We added two more hooks for belts and that was it.  No more stupid white wire shelf!! Praise!

The back wall was all about the DIY Laundry Basket Dresser and open shelves for shoes.  You can see all the details on how I built out this area here.

Kristin did hang all the clothes by color (remember she’s the professional organizer, not me!) and I’ll admit it really made the space look nice.  We folded all the pants and sweatshirts and fit them in our shelf tower.  Then any extra clothes, accessories, or off season wear we put on the shelf in buckets.

What a difference, don’t you think?!  A DIY closet success if I ever did see one! I truly hope walking through this process with me has helped inspire you on what may work for your closet space!  I had no idea it would make such a difference in getting ready each morning.

Thanks for being here! Happy organizing,
Jenni
