Well, it’s officially fall! With the change of the seasons, a change of decor is always nice too.  Here are some simple and easy front porch decor ideas for you for your fall front porch.

You know I like to use what I have, the thought of lugging bins and bins of decor from the basement or attic is no fun.  I’ve simplified my decor a bit to be in just a few key areas of the house.  The front porch is definitely a spot for a bit of decor.  With a few small DIY ideas, you can give your porch a face lift for just a few dollars and use what you already have year after after year!

Here’s a short video showing you how I decorated this front porch…

Our summer flower pots were on their last legs, so it was nice to pull out all the spindly flowers and put in the mums.  A tipabout mums – buy them with as many tightly packed buds as you can! It’s tempting to buy the pot with the blooms all full and open, but they won’t last as long.  You can see this photo was taken just a few days after the video was filmed and the mums are already so much more open.  I used two different colors for a bit of contrast and a big ole kale right in the front of the pot for a bit of texture.  Nothing too complicated here, but I love mums for fall decor.

I had bought these wooden planters last year on clearance knowing they would be good for something.  With a quick coat of paint, I made them match the other blues on the porch, and then topped them with a grapevine wreath, a bit of garland, and a pumpkin.  I’ll replace this fake white pumpkin with a real one when I find the heirloom pumpkin I like, but for now it works!  I really like the leafy green garland and how it plays off the green of the kale in the flower pots.

Here it is with a bright orange pumpkin, and this one works just as well. The blues on my porch are a really nice contrast to fall’s classic colors – rusty reds, oranges and cream.

If your front door needs a makeover, now is a great time to do it – you can check out this tutorial to get it done in an afternoon.  (By the way, you’ll see in the post – this door went from Navy to light blue, and now back to Navy – you can change your front door for every season if you really wanted to 😂)

I pulled out my fall wreath (just another grapevine wreath with some faux fall flowers tucked into it) and it contrasts so nicely with the front door.

Layering your front door mats is a great way to give your front door a bit more presence, as well as bring in some extra colors.  I used this black and white bath mat as the base, then added an outdoor mat that says “There’s No Place Like Home”.  This combo has lasted all spring/summer and it still works now, so I’m leaving it!

I painted a plaid “Welcome” sign.  Plaid always reminds me of cooler weather, so I made it into a paint technique and created this cute sign.  There’s a plaid paint finish tutorial you can watch here if you’d like to see it!

Fall porch decor – it doesn’t take much to really make your front porch welcoming and ready for fall! This is so nice for the curb appeal as well as for friends and family who come by.  I think I need a few more pumpkins, but this is a great start – don’t you think?!
