Hello there!
I have a fun, colorful makeover for you today. It’s a pink ombre dresser! A friend of a friend came to the last May sale looking for a piece for her daughter’s room. She wanted it to be pink and ombre… and I think we nailed it.
This was just a plain dresser to start with that had some nice details.
After removing all the hardware and prepping the piece, I divided the height of the dresser into even sections, marking them with a line of chalk.
Then I mixed up my colors… this is a mix of what I had on hand, I didn’t want all the same tones just getting lighter, I wanted to mix it up a little with a little more raspberry color on the bottom (isn’t that a luscious color??), adding some orange-y coral to the middle and ending up with the lightest pink blush.
Here are the colors I used, and there’s no formula, I just added a bit until I thought the colors were right.
The first 2 coats I just painted up to the lines. Pinks/Corals/Reds take a few more coats than normal for some reason.
When I painted the 3rd coat I started to blend the lines. I went up the line with both the top and bottom color then dipped my brush in just the tiniest bit of water and blended the line. I blended once, let it dry then went back and did it again. You really just have to mess with it until you get the effect you like.
I barely distressed the edges, and added clear glass hardware so the hardware wouldn’t compete with the design of the piece.
I think this is going to make one happy little girl, don’t you think??
I did this blue ombre last year, it’s a totally different style dresser, but the effect is the same. It’s fun, unique and sure to stop you in your tracks!
Is ombre for you??
Until next time,
Jenni
What a fun look. And you made it look so easy.
If it isn’t pink I would like it. You did a good job and it will look lovely in a little girl’s room. I had a pink room when I was young and that was enough to last me a life time. LOLA
I know, pink isn’t my color either – but for a little girls room it’s perfect!! Hehe.
