Hello!
Yes, it’s been a while. I have some updates coming your way, but I wanted to start here – by showing you what I’ve been up to over the past few years. I created a candle company.
The company was first called Pittsburgh Candle Works, but has now been re-branded to Roots & Wings Candles. Back to our roots (literally). These candles are all about celebrating the place you call home. With scents and fragrances that are a reflection of the place, and art that is simple but specific to the place you are proud of – your home town.
My town has changed a few times in the past few years, so we currently have a Pittsburgh Collection, Northeast Collection (Rhode Island specifically) and now a Southwest Collection. We will keep expanding our offerings each year as we grow – but this is a good place to start. Our candles are perfect as gifts, for tourists, graduates, and people who love their town.
The candle company was launched in August of 2019. I had been slowly building it behind the scenes and feeling like it had some real potential. I was planning on a pivot in business – moving a bit from being so much the face of my brand (here) into a more product based venture. Also, I fell in love with candle making and wanted to share it! Then COVID hit and plans went out the window (I’m sure this happened for you too).
So here I am, trying to figure out how to blend a DIY/home blog with some candles. Thank you for your grace as I figure this out. It will probably be a little DIY, a little design, a little candles all mixed up together. I have missed writing and creating videos for you, I hope to be able to continue to do that – although not at such a quick speed as before. This will be a share as I go type plan. Some seasons in the candle business get pretty busy – it’s just making, packing and shipping orders – others are a bit slower and I have more time for the painting, and woodworking that fills my soul.
It’s true – as I say in the video, “the mission hasn’t changed”. I think it’s my God given gift to make a house a home – and maybe (hopefully) inspire you to do the same. Sometimes it’s in little things like cleaning a countertop and lighting a candle, sometimes it’s in bigger things like painting a house or building a piece of furniture. But any way you look at it – we are the home-makers. What a joy to be able to create a space that is warm, cozy, inviting for our friends and family. We like to kick up our feet at the end of the day in a place that is full of our personality and creativity.
Check out the candles if you would, click around, explore our fragrances, our art. Let me know what you think – I’m always open to new ideas! Let the candles be a new layer of home – we work with our hands on textures, we paint to see beautiful things, and now we can create a scent that reflects the season, our home, our town!
So here’s to new adventures, thanks for being here!
