My neighbors build a beautiful new deck last summer, but couldn’t find the right coffee table to fit the space. So, I built one! I love building furniture, it’s a process for sure – and I have a lot to learn, but building something from a few pieces of wood is immensely gratifying. This DIY outdoor coffee table didn’t disappoint!
I took the idea from a table we found on Pinterest. I just modified the dimensions to be a coffee table size, and the beauty of this build is that it’s quite simple. It’s a combination of 2x4s and 2x6s and that’s it! I kept the building instructions super simple so minimal tools and supplies are needed to do it.
The top of this table is finished with General Finishes Exterior 450 stain – in Red Mahogany. Then sealed with Exterior 450 in a satin finish – 3 coats will do to really seal this against the elements.
The base is Antique White Milk Paint. Don’t forget, GF Milk Paint is suited as an exterior paint. Just for a little extra insurance, I added one coat of Exterior 450 to seal it up though.

Another building project in the books! This one was a success – what should I build next?
